- Ingredients: 700 mg Silybum marianum L. extract standardized on minimum 7.5% total silymarin as silybin A & B using HPLC method (equivalent to 140 mg in UV method), PEG, Glycerol, Gelatin
- Dosage and directions: Three times a day, take one capsule each time, with plenty of water, preferably before meals.
- Prohibited Usage: This product is contraindicated in cases of known allergy to plants of the Asteraceae family.
- Use in Pregnancy and Lactation: Should not be used during pregnancy and lactation.
- Side Effects: Gastrointestinal problems such as diarrhea and nausea, and also allergic reactions such as pruritus and skin rash, may rarely occur following product consumption.

Silymarin, generally defined as the active substance of standardized Silybum marianum extract and the main ingredient of Livermed capsules, contains a mixture of flavonilignans consisting of silybin A and silybin B, as its major active constituents, in addition to isosilybin A, isosilybin B, silychristin, isosilychristin, silydianin and others. The efficacy of silymarin in treatment of liver diseases is a result of its various mechanisms of action which are known to improve liver function or treat the diseases.
Hepatic fibrosis is known as a pathological consequence of chronic liver diseases and can result in excessive scar tissue, due to an improper wound healing process to liver injury. Silymarin, plays a crucial role in regeneration of liver tissue by increasing the formation of ribosomes, DNA synthesis, as well as stimulating factors influencing protein synthesis. It also prevents fibrosis by inhibiting the conversion of Stellate cells to myofibroblasts and helps regenerate the liver by inhibiting inflammatory processes.

Silymarin, inhibits the cyclooxygenase, leukotrienes, and the production of free radicals by activating enzymes with antioxidant activity and non-enzymatic antioxidants inside the cell. Another protective effect of LiverMed capsules, in cases of hepatotoxicity and other common liver diseases, could be the inhibition of NF-kappa B activation followed by decreasing the production of inflammatory cytokine, and regulation of cell membrane permeability.
